This blog is about nursing foot care and what that entails. People often ask me "what is nursing foot care" so I thought I would go into greater detail as to what nursing foot care is all about. Nursing foot care is non invasive medical treatments. It is not your typical pedicure that you would receive from a nail salon. It is preventative treatments, health promotion and health teaching. Foot care nurses are Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses who have taken specific post graduate classes related to foot care. Foot care nurses have the education to assess and treat patients that have lower limb and foot issues as well as to those who do not. Nurses are given the skills to properly care for patients and to refer to other multidisciplinary members if issues arise out of their scope of practice. Nurses provide lower limb assessments, vascular screening of the lower limbs,
diabetic foot care, thickened toe nail care, callous and corn removal, ingrown toe nail care, fungal nail treatments
, compression fitting
, wart removal, foot pain treatments
, bio-mechanic assessments, gait, and footwear assessments.
Foot care treatments are covered by most extended medical insurances and are also tax deductible for those who do not have insurance. Foot care nurses usually provide patients with receipts for the treatment they provide.
Foot care nurses provide care to patients in a variety of settings such as in the comfort of an individuals home, clinics, medical doctors offices, private practices, retirement homes, senior centers, nursing homes and recreation centers.
We offer our treatments at various locations as mentioned above and also in our clinic. If you or someone you know is in need of a foot care nurse for treatment give us a call. We would be happy to assist you.
