Advanced Foot Care Course

Sarah Ann’s Foot Care Services is a collaborative online advanced and diabetic foot care nursing program with PEDEd.  This online course takes six weeks to complete. The online course is self-directed so you can learn at your own pace.  A key component of this course is the 3-day hands on clinical application provided by Sarah Ann’s Foot Care Services in beautiful Barrie Ontario,  this is the only foot care course in southern Ontario offering 3 full days of hands on practical experience. The clinical application runs over a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday  in Barrie Ontario. Designed to be flexible and collaborative in nature, this course will meet the needs of the active and enterprising Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse  looking to enhance their skills to take on an exciting new career! 



Course Aim and Outcome:

As our population continues to grow and age, the demand for knowledgeable Advanced and Diabetic foot care nurses will continue to be highly sought after. Using evidence-based theory, Canadian Associations Foot Care Nurses Competencies and current best practice guidelines, students will explore key principles and concepts necessary to function as a foot care nurse in either private practice, a health care team or within an agency. Case studies, group discussions, return demonstrations and clinical practice allow students to apply their newly acquired foot care skills.


This course meets the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN) competencies and the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA).



Upon successful completion of this collaborative advanced and diabetic foot care program students will be awarded a certificate of completion from Sarah Ann’s Foot Care Services.



This class will have a significant depth of coverage on the following topics:

 

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the lower limb.
  • Identify and address factors that impact functionality and mobility of the lower limb.
  • Understand the implications of biomechanics as it relates to mobility and health of the lower limb.
  • Explain the principles of infection prevention and control as they relate to foot care practice, instruments and equipment.
  • Have knowledge of the safe use, care and maintenance of critical and non-critical instruments for foot care.
  • Understand the profound effects of diabetes mellitus on lower limb health.
  • Identify the components of a comprehensive diabetic lower limb health assessment.
  • Have knowledge of therapeutic psycho-social interventions.
  • A comprehensive description of the procedure and resources necessary to start your own business.
